Detra McGuire, a 23-year-old woman from Lake City, Florida, disappeared on November 2, 1988, under tragic circumstances. That evening, Detra left her Gatorwood Apartments residence, reportedly heading to a convenience store with her two-year-old daughter, Roshanda. While Detra never returned, her daughter’s body was discovered a few hours later on Interstate 10. Roshanda had been thrown from a moving vehicle and was found with multiple injuries, including a broken neck.
She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Detra's black 1988 Nissan Sentra was later located abandoned at a truck stop in Columbia County, but there was no sign of her. Detra’s disappearance, combined with the horrifying death of her daughter, has led to widespread speculation. While authorities have questioned Detra's boyfriend and labeled him a person of interest, no one has ever been charged in either the murder of Roshanda or the disappearance of Detra. The case remains unsolved, and despite ongoing efforts, Detra has not been found.
