In the summer of 2019, a particularly violent weekend in Baltimore claimed the life of 24-year-old Markel Jackson. On the afternoon of July 27th, police were summoned to the 1700 block of McHenry Street in response to a ShotSpotter alert. There they discovered Jackson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services transported Markel Jackson to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. He was one of six individuals killed in Baltimore during that weekend.
Jackson, a Black male, had faced a difficult upbringing in the city.
Despite the efforts of the Baltimore Police Department, no suspects have been identified in connection with the shooting death of Markel Jackson. The investigation into his murder remains ongoing as the city continues to grapple with a high rate of violent crime.
