On April 2, 2020, in Mount Airy, Maryland, the life of 18-year-old Noah Jeffrey Homayouni was tragically cut short in a sudden act of violence. A young male with a promising future, he was remembered for his larger-than-life personality and a smile that could light up a room. Noah was an avid lacrosse player with plans to continue the sport at Howard Community College in the fall.
That Thursday afternoon, deputies were called to a home on Bennett Branch Road for reports of a shooting. The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, culminating in a horrific murder-suicide. Authorities determined that 35-year-old Joseph Zujkowski used a rifle to fatally shoot his estranged wife, 36-year-old Heather Zujkowski, inside their home.
Noah, a neighbor, was outside when the shooting began. For reasons that remain unclear, Joseph Zujkowski also shot Noah. He was discovered in a nearby yard suffering from gunshot wounds and tragically died while being transported to a hospital. His death was a senseless loss that left a community in mourning.
After the shootings, Joseph Zujkowski fled the scene. Law enforcement was able to make contact with him by phone as he returned to his own residence in Gaithersburg. Upon their arrival, however, Zujkowski took his own life. The investigation concluded that Zujkowski was the sole perpetrator of the violent acts that ended three lives. As the suspect killed himself, there were no arrests or subsequent legal proceedings in this case.
