On a late Thursday night in June of 2020, events unfolded that would end the life of 20-year-old Darion Gripper of Bowie, Maryland. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 11th, patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of Central Avenue and Kettering Drive in Kettering, Maryland, following a report of a single-vehicle collision.
Upon their arrival at the scene, emergency personnel made a grim discovery.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Darion Gripper, was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, Friday, June 12, 2020.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives began the work of trying to piece together the circumstances that led to Gripper's death. In an effort to generate leads, a reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case.
