On a summer afternoon in Pocomoke City, Maryland, the life of 28-year-old Deavon Davis was tragically cut short. On August 11, 2020, near the basketball courts in the vicinity of Bishop Isaac Jenkins Street and Young Street, Davis was fatally shot. The Pocomoke Police Department received a 911 call for a shooting victim in the 500 block of Bonneville Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Davis, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported by ambulance but was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel before reaching the hospital.
The investigation into the death of Deavon Davis, a resident of Norfolk, Virginia, was quickly taken over by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit. Their preliminary investigation indicated that a suspect ran towards Davis and fired multiple shots before fleeing into a nearby wooded area. Early the next morning, at approximately 2:15 a.m., troopers arrested 18-year-old Marion Maddox of Pocomoke without incident. Maddox was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and firearm-related offenses.
The legal process that followed saw Marion Maddox face justice for his actions. In September 2021, Maddox pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the shooting death of Deavon Davis. Court officials reported that Maddox was sentenced to life in prison for the crime. The motive for the shooting was not immediately determined following the arrest. Deavon Davis was born in Nassawadox, Virginia, and was formerly employed by Perdue Farms, Inc. in Accomac. He leaves behind his parents, a step-father, grandmother, and seventeen siblings.
