In the late hours of a Thursday night in White Marsh, Maryland, a dispute in a parking lot escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 21-year-old Teon Deontae Barnes. On November 5, 2020, officers were called to the 4300 block of Bedrock Circle, where they discovered Barnes suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators with the Baltimore County Police quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted incident.
The investigation into the death of the Rosedale man led police to identify a suspect. The preliminary investigation revealed that Barnes had been engaged in an argument with another man in the parking lot, which culminated in the deadly shooting. Following the incident, the shooter allegedly forced a witness into his vehicle and fled before authorities could arrive. This added a layer of complexity and urgency to the investigation, which soon pointed towards a single individual.
A little over a week after the shooting, an arrest was made. On November 13, 2020, police charged 35-year-old Marc Jason Jones in connection with Barnes's death. The charges against him were extensive and severe, including first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or violent crime. In addition to the murder-related charges, Jones also faced counts of kidnapping, false imprisonment, and second-degree assault, stemming from the abduction of the witness at the scene. Following his arrest, Jones was held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on a no-bail status.
