On a cold January evening in 2021, the life of 32-year-old Shauntese Gedeon was tragically cut short. The woman was found in a parking lot in Riverdale, Maryland, on January 29th, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, she succumbed to her injuries a short time later at a local hospital. The preliminary investigation into her death suggested a senseless act of violence, stemming from an argument with someone she knew.
The Prince George's County
Police Department's Homicide Unit quickly launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect: 28-year-old Rutilio Orellana of Riverdale. Within days of Gedeon's death, Orellana was located and taken into custody by authorities. The investigation revealed that Orellana and Gedeon were acquainted, and it is believed that the shooting occurred during a dispute between the two.
Following his arrest, Rutilio Orellana was charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, in connection with the shooting death of Shauntese Gedeon. He was then held by the Department of Corrections. The arrest brought a sense of closure to some, but for the family and friends of Shauntese Gedeon, it marked the beginning of a long and painful journey through the criminal justice system as they awaited the resolution of the case against the man accused of ending her life.
