On a Monday afternoon in May of 2021, gunshots shattered the day in the Carrollton Ridge neighborhood of Baltimore. When the tragic event was over, Ronald Decosta White Jr., a 40-year-old male, had been shot multiple times in the 200 block of Harmison Street. First responders rushed him to a nearby trauma center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died at the hospital.
The investigation into the shooting led Baltimore Police to identify a suspect.
Several months later, in September 2021, authorities arrested 32-year-old Craig Carter and charged him with first and second-degree murder in connection with White's death. Investigators were able to identify Carter as the suspect after a thorough review of evidence and interviews with witnesses.
In February 2023, Craig Carter's trial for the murder of Ronald White began. Prosecutors presented evidence that included video surveillance footage showing a man, identified as Carter, exiting a white Honda Accord at the scene. The footage allegedly showed the shooter firing four times. A key piece of evidence was a water bottle found at the scene that tested positive for Carter's DNA. The prosecution argued that video footage showed Carter setting the water bottle down minutes before the shooting. The defense countered by stating there was a lack of evidence, emphasizing that no murder weapon was ever recovered.
