In June of 2021, the tragic death of 18-year-old Kozee Spriggs unfolded in Baltimore, Maryland. A Black female, Spriggs was reported missing on June 8, 2021. Her decomposing body was later discovered on June 15 in a backyard in the 1300 block of Ensor Street. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.
Investigators identified 38-year-old Kevin Dudley as a suspect in the murder.
According to charging documents, Spriggs was involved in drug dealing with Dudley, and the two had a dispute over drugs and money. Surveillance footage from the night of June 3, 2021, showed a car, later connected to a rental in Dudley's name, pulling into an alley near where Spriggs' body was found. The footage captured three individuals getting out of the car and walking into the yard.
SWAT officers arrested Dudley at his home on June 17, 2021. Initially, he denied any involvement in Spriggs' disappearance. However, he later admitted to being in the area where her body was discovered and to being in the getaway car. Dudley was subsequently charged with first- and second-degree murder.
Although the prosecution stated that Dudley was not the one who shot and killed Spriggs, he was considered a conspirator and an accomplice. He was accused of being the getaway driver for the unidentified individuals who were with him. In July 2024, Kevin Dudley was found guilty of first-degree murder and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. A judge sentenced him to life in prison, suspending all but 55 years. As of that time, no one else had been charged in connection with Kozee Spriggs' death.
