In the early summer evening of June 24, 2021, Rien Green, a 29-year-old man, was fatally shot in a burst of gunfire at the Woodmore Towne Centre in Glenarden, Maryland, a shopping complex near Upper Marlboro. The shooting, which also left two other men wounded, shattered the evening calm outside a popular diner around 10:30 p.m. When officers from the Glenarden Police Department arrived at the scene in the 9200 block of Woodmore Center Drive, they discovered three men suffering from gunshot
wounds. All three were transported to a local hospital, but Green succumbed to his injuries a short time later. One of the other victims was reported to be in critical condition, while the third was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Rien Green was a well-known and respected figure in his community. A licensed master barber, he had realized a long-held dream by opening his own barbershop, Clipollos Grooming, within the very shopping center where his life was tragically cut short. Friends and clients described him as ambitious and a pillar in the community, someone who was dedicated to his craft and to giving back. He was known to offer free haircuts to the homeless and was admired for his desire to inspire other young men to succeed. His death sent shockwaves through the community, leaving friends and family heartbroken and searching for answers.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit took lead on the case. Authorities stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, the investigation has not publicly identified any suspects. As of late 2024, there have been no announced arrests in the death of Rien Green, and the case remains an unsolved homicide.
