On the evening of August 25, 2021, in Landover, Maryland, a dispute escalated into a fatal act of violence that claimed the life of 28-year-old Julian Kirkland of District Heights. The young man was shot in the 2600 block of Kent Village Drive at approximately 8:10 p.m. When officers from the Prince George's County Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Kirkland outside, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the shooting suggested that the tragic event was not a random act of violence but rather the culmination of an ongoing dispute between Kirkland and another individual. Friends and family remembered Julian Kirkland as a son, a father to a young daughter named Journey, a brother, and an amazing, one-of-a-kind friend who was loved by many.
In the months following the shooting, homicide unit detectives worked to identify and apprehend the person responsible for Kirkland's death. Their investigation led them to 32-year-old Dwayne Farmer. In May 2022, Farmer was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting. The charges brought against him included first-degree murder and other related offenses. Following his arrest, Dwayne Farmer was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
