In the evening hours of November 11, 2021, a burst of violence on a street in Southwest Baltimore would set in motion a tragedy that would take nearly two years to reach its somber conclusion. On that day, at approximately 7:52 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1900 block of Braddish Avenue. There they found Byron Hagans, a 29-year-old male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics rushed Hagans to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
For almost two years, he fought the devastating injuries he sustained in the shooting. However, on September 3, 2023, Byron Hagans succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Following an autopsy, the Medical Examiner's Office determined that his death was a direct result of complications from the gunshot wound he received in 2021. Consequently, his death was officially classified as a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting of Byron Hagans has been taken over by the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Detectives. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been announced.
