In the early morning hours of December 22, 2021, the life of Jarelle Gomez, a 15-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore. At approximately 1:04 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of Mosher Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Jarelle was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
A woman was also present at the location, having sustained a gunshot wound to her leg.
Emergency medical services rushed Jarelle to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The woman who was also shot was treated for her non-life-threatening injuries. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, adding another young life to the city's statistics of gun violence. Jarelle was a student at Digital Harbor High School, and his death was mourned by his family, friends, and the school community.
The Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation into Jarelle's death. Detectives began canvassing the area for witnesses and any available surveillance footage that might shed light on the events that transpired. Despite public appeals for information and the efforts of organizations like Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland, the case has remained unsolved.
