In the early morning hours of August 24, 2023, tragedy struck in West Baltimore when 26-year-old Darius Alante Hill, a Black male, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:05 a.m. in the 2200 block of West North Avenue. Baltimore Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and discovered Hill and another man, 26-year-old Myron Anthony White, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both men were transported to area hospitals for medical attention, but they ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to identify a suspect, 25-year-old Khaleb Edmonds. Investigators spent a significant amount of time, between 35 and 45 hours, reviewing video footage that allegedly linked Edmonds to the crime. The evidence presented by the prosecution during the trial centered on the suspect's clothing as seen in the video recordings, specifically a white T-shirt, black shorts with a hemline above the knee, and black-and-white high-top sneakers. According to an eyewitness, two men were seen in the street, with one making a threatening statement. Subsequently, a vehicle passed through the area again, and shots were fired into the car, striking White in the head. Hill, who was reportedly a friend of Edmonds, was caught in the line of fire and sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his torso.
Khaleb Edmonds was arrested and stood trial for the murders of both Darius Hill and Myron White. His initial jury trial concluded in June 2025. The prosecution's case relied heavily on the video evidence and the specific details of the suspect's attire. The defense attorney argued that the case against her client was based on circumstantial evidence, referring to the DNA evidence recovered from a chair at the scene as 'garbage' and stating that the prosecution's entire case rested on an outfit and a hemline. The outcome of this trial was a mistrial. Further court proceedings, including a motions hearing, were scheduled to take place.
