In the spring of 2022, a dispute in East Baltimore escalated to a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 39-year-old Kennod Lamont Taylor. On the evening of May 9, at approximately 9:43 p.m., police responded to a shot spotter alert in the 3000 block of East Preston Street. There, they discovered Taylor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was urgently transported to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led detectives to
identify a suspect, Myron Watson, who was 35 years old at the time. Authorities believe that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Watson and Taylor. Just ten days after the fatal shooting, investigators were able to link Watson to the crime through his girlfriend's maroon Subaru Outback, which was identified as the getaway vehicle. Video footage reportedly captured Watson shooting Taylor and then fleeing the scene in the car.
Following his arrest, Myron Watson was charged with a number of serious offenses, including first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, and various gun-related violations. In October 2023, Watson appeared before a Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge and accepted a plea agreement. In exchange for his plea on the first-degree murder charge, he was sentenced to life in prison with all but 38 years suspended, to be followed by five years of supervised probation.
