In the quiet community of Middle River, Maryland, the life of 42-year-old Tyran Caulk was tragically cut short on November 12, 2022. On that Saturday afternoon, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 9900 block of Berliner Place. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Caulk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of law enforcement to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy would later reveal that he had been shot eight times in his head, chest, arm, and thighs.
The investigation into the violent death of Tyran Caulk led authorities to two young men, 18-year-old Deandre Antoine Wright of Rosedale and 19-year-old Demetris Tyron Hollis of Middle River. It was determined that the duo had arranged to meet with Caulk at the location where his life would ultimately be taken. The motive appeared to be robbery. Investigators were able to piece together the events of that fatal day through a combination of video evidence, eyewitness accounts, and the tracking of the suspects' cell phones. At the scene of the crime, police recovered multiple shell casings that were traced back to three different ghost guns, illegal firearms that lack serial numbers and are difficult to trace.
Initially, another 18-year-old, Elijah Sattler, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery, and the use of a firearm in the incident. However, the focus of the prosecution shifted to Wright and Hollis. In February 2025, both Deandre Antoine Wright, then 21, and Demetris Tyron Hollis, then 20, were brought to trial. After hearing the evidence presented by the state, a jury found both men guilty of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and armed robbery. They now face the possibility of life in prison without the chance of parole, with an additional 40 years. Their sentencing is scheduled for May 23, 2025.
