Edward Joseph Alva, a 27-year-old deputy sheriff with the Richland County Sheriff's Department in South Carolina, tragically lost his life on December 24, 1992. Alva was responding to a domestic disturbance call at 1183 Heyward Brockington Road when the incident occurred. During the call, Alva and his partner encountered a mentally ill man.
