Deputy Sheriff William Jonathan Crawley, aged 29, tragically lost his life on August 31, 1998, in Chesterfield, South Carolina. Deputy Crawley was performing his duties as a law enforcement officer when he was fatally shot. On that fateful day, he was escorting a woman to her residence on South Carolina 9, approximately five miles from Pageland, so she could gather her belongings and move out.
