In the winter of 2014, a birthday celebration in Greenville, South Carolina, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 22-year-old Javario Santique Brooks. On the night of Monday, February 3rd, gunshots erupted at a party being held at a mobile home, striking Brooks in the abdomen. He was rushed to Greenville Memorial Trauma Center, but tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
The investigation into the
shooting quickly led authorities to a suspect. John Mark Cureton III, a 29-year-old from the nearby city of Greer, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office charged Cureton with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following his arrest, Cureton was held without bond at the Greenville County Detention Center as the legal process began to unfold.
Subsequent court proceedings found John Mark Cureton III guilty for his role in the death of Javario Santique Brooks. Following his conviction, Cureton was incarcerated and has been serving his sentence at McCormick Correctional Institution, a state prison in South Carolina.
