Mitzi Yvonne Larson, a 42-year-old female, was tragically killed on May 17, 2014, just one day after her birthday, in her home in Clifton, South Carolina. Her life was cut short when her husband, Michael Lee Larson, 42, shot her with a 12-gauge shotgun. The incident unfolded at their residence on Hawk Hill Road, where the couple had reportedly been arguing prior to the fatal shooting.
In the early morning hours, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Michael Larson himself contacted emergency
services, informing the 911 operator that he had shot and killed his wife. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Michael Larson sitting on the front steps of the family home. Inside, they found Mitzi Larson's body in a bedroom; she had sustained gunshot wounds to her abdomen and chest. Evidence at the scene included a third shotgun shell lodged in a wall near her body, with the murder weapon located about 20 feet away.
Michael Lee Larson was arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. In court, the prosecution presented the 911 call, Larson's written statement to the police, and crime scene photos as evidence. On September 28, 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife.
