In the late summer of 2021, a life was tragically cut short in Lamar, South Carolina. On Sunday, September 12, 2021, Shawnquavis S. Sparks, a 20-year-old man known affectionately as “Shy,” was killed in a shooting incident on East Jackson Street. Born on March 17, 2001, in Hartsville, SC, he was a young father to two sons, Noah Latrell Sparks and Shawnquavis Shyka Sparks, Jr.
He was educated within the Darlington County Public School System.
The Darlington County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide, which led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Tyrik R. Herion, 21, of Lamar, was the first to be taken into custody. He was formally charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The investigation continued, leading to a second arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.
Zachary Deon McClain Jr. was later apprehended and faced the same serious charges as Herion: murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
