In the small town of Lamar, South Carolina, a young life was cut short on an April evening in 2018. Germaine McCoy, an 18-year-old male, was at the Cambridge Apartments on a Saturday, the 14th of the month, when the sound of gunfire shattered the peace. When police and emergency services arrived, they found McCoy suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving a family and community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
