On a tragic evening in November 2014, a young life was cut short in West Columbia, South Carolina. Luqman Shatone Sims, a 21-year-old Black/African American male from Dixiana, became the victim of a fatal shooting on November 10th. The incident unfolded at the Rolling Meadow Mobile Home Park on Charleston Highway, where Sims resided. A relative of Sims placed a call to authorities, who arrived to find him lying in the road, having sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body.
The coroner subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into the death of Luqman Sims quickly revealed a narrative of a planned robbery that spiraled into a deadly confrontation. A group of individuals had conspired to rob Sims, and on that Monday night, they confronted him. During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation broke out, which tragically culminated in Sims being shot. In the days following the shooting, authorities made a series of arrests in connection with the homicide. The first suspect taken into custody was Keith Everette Brown, a 21-year-old from West Columbia. Shortly after, two more men, 21-year-old Chancellor Deshawn Montgomery and 23-year-old Javon Maurice Williams of Lexington, were also apprehended. All three men faced a string of serious charges, including murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and criminal conspiracy, reflecting the severe nature of the incident that led to the untimely death of Luqman Shatone Sims.
