In December 2014, in Lancaster, South Carolina, 19-year-old Quatavia Robinson was found dead from a gunshot wound in a home on Clyburn Drive. Her boyfriend, Keishawn Omar McManus, who was 22 at the time, called 911 to report that he had come home to find that she had committed suicide. However, as investigators processed the scene and an autopsy was performed, the evidence began to contradict McManus's account of a self-inflicted wound.
The initial investigation treated the case as a
suicide based on McManus's statement. He was initially cooperative with law enforcement. But as the investigation progressed, authorities concluded that Robinson's death was a homicide. They determined that McManus had shot and killed her during a domestic dispute and then staged the scene to appear as a suicide. By the time investigators had pieced together what they believed had truly happened, McManus had disappeared.
A warrant was issued for Keishawn Omar McManus's arrest on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He remained a fugitive for nearly a year, with law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, searching for him along the East Coast. In late December 2015, acting on a tip, authorities located McManus at a home on Blossom Street in Lancaster. After a period of surveillance, he was taken into custody without incident.
It was also revealed that at the time of Robinson's death, McManus was already out on a $50,000 bond for a 2012 murder charge in connection with the shooting death of Timothy Wissinger. In that case, he and another man were accused of killing Wissinger during a dispute over drugs.
