In a tragic turn of events, 52-year-old Carrie Ann Daley Turner and her husband, Steven Gray Turner, 61, were discovered deceased from gunshot wounds in their room at the Landmark Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Friday, March 6, 2015. The couple had recently relocated from Durham, North Carolina, to Roxboro.
The investigation into their deaths swiftly led to the arrest of their 23-year-old son, Alexander Gray Turner, and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Chelsi Lelia Griffin.
Both were charged with two counts of murder. The motive for the killings is believed to be a domestic dispute that escalated after the Turners discovered their son had been arrested again and consequently cut him off financially. Just days before the murders, Alexander Turner had been detained for unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In addition to the primary suspects, two other individuals were implicated in the crime. Grant Anthony Dollens, 20, and Roxanna Lisa Cumpan, 18, were charged with accessory after the fact for their roles in assisting the main suspects after the murders. Cumpan faced an additional charge for possession of a controlled substance. During the investigation, it was revealed that Alexander Turner and Chelsi Griffin were in possession of five guns, though only two were recovered at the time of their arrest.
The case proceeded through the legal system, with Alexander Gray Turner ultimately pleading guilty to the murder of his parents. His girlfriend, Chelsi Lelia Griffin, was also sentenced for her involvement in the double homicide.
