On January 13, 2016, 15-year-old Tyler Russell was shot and killed while walking home from basketball practice in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. The incident occurred near 20th and Market Streets, where he was fatally wounded in what was described as a senseless act of violence.
