In the late hours of a warm late summer evening in 2015, the life of 19-year-old Jamon Samuel Kay was tragically cut short. On September 4th, the young man from Anderson, South Carolina, was a passenger in a Ford Explorer, traveling with four other people along Highway 76 in Pendleton. Suddenly, the journey turned into a scene of violence when shots were fired at the vehicle.
A bullet struck Jamon, inflicting a fatal wound.
He was rushed to AnMed Health Medical Center, but the efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the shooting, treating it as a homicide. The senseless act left a family and community in mourning for a young life taken too soon.
Following the incident, law enforcement began a search for the person responsible for Jamon's death. Their investigation led them to identify 50-year-old David Jonathan Durham Sr. as the primary suspect. For several days, authorities searched for Durham. The search concluded on a Sunday evening when Clemson Police received a call about a suspicious person at the Aspen Heights student housing complex.
Responding to the call, officers located David Jonathan Durham Sr. and took him into custody without incident. He was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Jamon Samuel Kay.
