In the quiet community of Lafayette, Indiana, the life of 28-year-old Kadeisha Ross was tragically cut short in a violent act that also claimed the life of another woman. On the morning of Saturday, March 1, 2025, police responded to a call about a possible death at an apartment on Cochise Trail. Inside, they made the grim discovery of two deceased women, later identified as Kadeisha Ross and 34-year-old Laportia Shenett. Both women had been shot, and the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office officially ruled their deaths as homicides.
Investigators at the scene recovered shell casings and a small-caliber firearm. While the relationship between Ross and Shenett was not immediately clear, the incident occurred inside Shenett's ground-floor apartment. Police stated that they did not believe the act was random and that there was no ongoing threat to the community. Kadeisha was remembered as a loving mother to her two young sons, Junior and Khalid. Her family described her as having a warm heart and a spirit that touched everyone she met, with an incredible ability to spread joy and happiness.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to identify 50-year-old Seyene Vargas as a suspect. Police revealed that Vargas knew both of the victims and had a prior domestic relationship with Laportia Shenett. A warrant was issued for Vargas's arrest on charges of two counts of murder, obstruction of justice, and false informing. On Sunday, March 16, 2025, U.S. Marshals located and apprehended Seyene Vargas in Seattle, Washington.
