On the first day of the new year, a young life was tragically cut short in North Charleston, South Carolina. Emory Sharod Lewis, a 21-year-old male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound on January 1, 2017. The Charleston County Coroner's Office confirmed his identity and that he had died early on that Sunday morning. His death was the first homicide recorded in North Charleston for that year.
