In the community near Cheraw, South Carolina, a 28-year-old man named James Henderson experienced a terrifying end to his life in January 2017. On a Saturday night, after returning to his residence on Hillian Edwards Road, he expressed to witnesses that he believed people were trying to kill him. This fear seemed to materialize when he received a series of phone calls, with the final one luring him outside of his home.
Once outside, Henderson was shot multiple times.
Despite being gravely wounded, James Henderson managed to run from the scene of the shooting, crossing Highway 9 and collapsing in a wooded area where he was later found deceased. The subsequent investigation led to the arrests of three men in connection with the murder of James Henderson. James Monroe Brown, 27, Brenton Xavier Davis, 26, and Jamarcus Lavar Sellers, 27, were all taken into custody. They were charged with accessory before and after the fact in Henderson's murder. At the time of their arrests, law enforcement officials indicated that they were still seeking two to three other individuals who were seen speaking with Henderson shortly before the fatal shots were fired, suggesting a wider conspiracy in the events that led to his death.
