In the late summer of 2017, the life of 37-year-old Catherine Tenise Clark was tragically cut short in Piedmont, South Carolina. On August 5th, the female victim was discovered deceased in a roadway, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The initial investigation into her death quickly transitioned into a homicide case, leaving her family and community searching for answers.
Clark was a mother, daughter, and sister, and her sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief through those who knew her.
The ensuing investigation led authorities to a Greenville man named Samuel Burnside. Evidence suggested that on the day of the murder, Burnside and Clark had been together in his car. An argument broke out between the two, escalating to a fatal confrontation. Burnside forced Clark out of the vehicle and proceeded to shoot her three times before leaving her body in the road. This act of violence abruptly ended a life and set in motion a legal process aimed at securing justice for Catherine Clark.
In 2020, Samuel Burnside stood trial for the murder of Catherine Tenise Clark. The evidence presented during the proceedings led to a conviction, and he was subsequently sentenced to 45 years in prison for his crime. Despite the conviction, Burnside later sought to have it overturned through an appeal. In May of 2023, the South Carolina Court of Appeals denied his appeal, upholding the original murder conviction. The court's decision ensured that Samuel Burnside would continue to serve his sentence for the senseless killing of Catherine Tenise Clark.
