In the wooded stillness of Easley, South Carolina, a young life was violently extinguished on October 4, 2017. Diana Martinez-Gonzalez, an 18-year-old Hispanic female, was found dead after being led into the woods off of Frady Road. Her tragic end came after she and a friend were forced at gunpoint into the secluded area.
The harrowing ordeal began when a man, later identified as Danielle de Jesus Wrangler Sharer, allegedly compelled the two young women to walk into the woods,
threatening to shoot them if they did not comply. Once there, he reportedly gave them both a piece of a dollar bill containing cocaine and demanded they ingest it. While her friend watched in horror, a rifle was pointed at Diana's head and she was fatally shot.
In a desperate bid for her own life, Diana's friend managed to escape the terrifying scene. She found refuge behind a nearby Mexican restaurant where she frantically called 911 for help, borrowing a phone to make the life-saving call. She informed the dispatcher that her friend had been killed and that the perpetrator was now trying to kill her. She described how he had gone back into the woods, possibly to bury Diana's body.
Responding to the chilling 911 calls, deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office arrived at Frady Road where they located and arrested Danielle de Jesus Wrangler Sharer. During the investigation, it was discovered that Wrangler Sharer had even answered the surviving victim's cell phone, which he had allegedly taken from her. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Diana Martinez-Gonzalez and the kidnapping of her friend. The investigation also led to a sexual assault kit being performed due to the circumstances in which Diana's body was discovered.
