In the late hours of a November night in Darlington, South Carolina, a residence on Flat Creek Road became the scene of a fatal shooting. On November 29, 2017, patrol deputies were dispatched to the home around 11:30 p.m., where they discovered the body of 55-year-old Larry Keith Moody. The Darlington County Coroner pronounced Moody dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
An autopsy was later conducted in Newberry to confirm the cause of death.
The investigation into the death of the male victim was handled by the Darlington County Sheriff's Office. Their efforts led to a break in the case about a month later. On December 28, 2017, investigators arrested 26-year-old Darquan Larchelle Gattison of Darlington and charged him with murder. He was taken into custody at a home on Wallflower Lane without incident.
Further investigation by the Sheriff's Investigators resulted in a second arrest. Quinton Jevon Gattison, 34, also of Darlington, was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Moody's death. Both men were booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
In the years following the arrests, the legal process continued to unfold. While Darquan Gattison remained in jail, his brother, Quinton Gattison, was released from the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center in September 2022. A judge set his bond at $10,000, and he was placed on house arrest to await trial.
