On May 31, 2018, in Timmonsville, South Carolina, 14-year-old Nykerria Shanyia Jackson was tragically shot and killed in her home. The gunman also took the lives of her 11-year-old sister, Breyanna Priscilla Jackson, and their 39-year-old mother, Cheirese Lutricia Smith Jackson.
Nykerria was remembered as a shy girl who, along with her more outgoing younger sister, enjoyed taking goofy pictures of their grandmother while she slept as a playful sign of their affection.
A neighbor described the family as 'the nicest people in the world.'
Authorities charged a man in connection with the shooting that resulted in the deaths of Nykerria and her family. Relatives reported that the suspect had visited the family's home twice on the day of the shooting. He had his initial court appearance the day after the tragic event.
