In the summer of 2018, the life of 38-year-old Dewitt Francis Cohen was tragically cut short in a burst of gun violence in North Charleston, South Carolina. On the evening of Wednesday, August 8, 2018, Cohen was fatally shot, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden loss. A Black male, Cohen's death was quickly ruled a homicide by the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
