In the late summer of 2018, the life of 20-year-old Stephon Chaplin of St. Helena, a man described as having a joyful and caring nature, was cut short by a single gunshot. On the evening of September 8th, at the Spanish Trace Apartments in Beaufort, South Carolina, Chaplin was fatally wounded in the breezeway of one of the apartment buildings. Emergency services rushed him to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injury shortly after arrival.
