On a quiet Saturday just before Christmas, the community of Little River, South Carolina, was unsettled by a grim discovery. On December 22, 2018, 43-year-old Brian Scott Nunn, a male resident of Shallotte, North Carolina, was found deceased in his vehicle in the area of S.C. 111. The Horry County Police Department was called to the scene, and it was quickly determined that Nunn’s death was not of natural causes.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and investigators immediately began treating the case as a homicide.
The initial investigation left the family of Brian Nunn with few answers, casting a somber shadow over their holiday season. As days turned into weeks, the Horry County Police Department continued to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts eventually led to a breakthrough in the case. In early February 2019, authorities announced the arrest of Kevin Ronette Stanley of Little River. He was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and obstructing justice in connection with Nunn's death.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of a second individual, Jermaine Johnson. Both Stanley and Johnson faced the judicial process for their roles in the death of Brian Scott Nunn. In a resolution to the case, both Kevin Ronette Stanley and Jermaine Johnson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. While initially facing murder charges, their pleas to the lesser charge resulted in a significant, though not maximum, sentence. Each man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for their part in the tragic death of Brian Scott Nunn, bringing a form of closure to a case that had deeply affected the Little River community.
