On November 10, 1986, a 55-year-old man named Robert Hilton Virgin, known to his friends and family as Bob, made a phone call to his home in Purcell, Oklahoma. He told his family he would be home in a little while, but he never arrived. That phone call was the last time anyone is known to have heard from him. The disappearance of this husband, father, and U.S. veteran has left a void in the lives of his loved ones that has persisted for decades. At the time he went missing, Virgin was a resident of McClain County and was described as a white male, standing 5'10" to 5'11" and weighing approximately 262 pounds. His hair was brown and gray, parted on the side with a widow's peak, and he had a mustache or a mustache and beard. Robert Virgin was last seen wearing a medium blue knit short-sleeved shirt with navy stripes, beige polyester pants, a tan corduroy coat, and a cap from the Joseph Harp Correctional Center. He also wore dark gray glasses, a watch, and his wedding band. Several distinguishing physical features were noted, including a cleft chin, a scar on the left side of his chest above his heart, a vertical scar on his right abdomen, moles under his right arm, and skin discoloration on his lower legs and ankles. Also missing is his vehicle, a white 1986 Chevrolet Chevette coupe with the Oklahoma license plate number CFM-988. Despite the passage of time, neither Robert nor his car have ever been located, deepening the mystery surrounding his sudden vanishing. The investigation into Robert Virgin's disappearance has remained open over the years, with the Purcell Police Department leading the efforts to find answers. In the years since he went missing, his children have provided DNA samples in the hope that it might one day be matched and bring closure to their family. The case was formally entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) in December 2016, bringing renewed attention to the decades-old mystery. The circumstances of his disappearance remain unsettlingly simple: a man called his family to say he was on his way home, and then was never heard from again. This lack of evidence, witnesses, or any subsequent signs of his whereabouts has left his case a lingering and painful cold case for his family and the community of Purcell.
