In the holiday season of 2018, a life was tragically cut short in North Charleston, South Carolina. Eston 'Kash' Shoaf, a 33-year-old man, was fatally shot on the evening of December 23rd. The incident unfolded on Alton Street, where Shoaf was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He had been shot twice in the back of the head and once on the right side of his head. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
At the time of his death, Eston was the owner and operator of a landscaping business in Charleston County. He was a father to five daughters.
The North Charleston Police Department identified Kenneth Chris Sigueza, then 32 years old, as the primary suspect in Shoaf's death. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between the two men while they were working in the front yard of a home on Alton Street. According to police reports, the argument escalated to the point where Sigueza allegedly produced a handgun and fired at Shoaf. Sigueza was described as an Asian male with black hair and brown eyes, standing 5'6' tall and weighing 140 pounds. Following the incident, he was known to drive a black Nissan Pathfinder, a blue Chevrolet Tahoe, and a white GMC pickup truck.
In the months following the shooting, Sigueza was apprehended and charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. However, the legal journey that ensued was complex. After his initial arrest, Sigueza was granted bond and released from jail with strict house arrest orders and GPS monitoring. Court documents would later show that he was arrested on multiple other charges in different counties while out on bond. These subsequent arrests, for offenses including shoplifting, resisting arrest, and violent burglary, ultimately led to the revocation of his bond in the murder case, and he was returned to jail to await trial. Sigueza's attorney has claimed that his client acted in self-defense, stating that Shoaf was the aggressor and that Sigueza feared for his life.
