In the early morning hours of May 18, 2019, the life of 26-year-old Cynthia Chinyere Ohans was tragically cut short in her own apartment in Columbia, South Carolina. Responding to a call, Columbia Police Department officers discovered a grim scene at the Colony Apartments on Bailey Street. Inside, they found Ms. Ohans and a man, later identified as 31-year-old Jirmaine J. Mobley, both deceased.
The Richland County Coroner's Office determined that Ms.
Ohans, a female, died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Her death was ruled a homicide. The investigation revealed that the incident, which occurred sometime between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., was a murder-suicide.
Authorities concluded that Jirmaine J. Mobley of Columbia shot and killed Ms. Ohans before turning the gun on himself. Mobley also died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Both the police and the coroner's office investigated the deaths, determining it to be a domestic-related incident. As the sole suspect in Ms. Ohans' murder took his own life, there were no arrests made, and the case did not proceed to a trial.
