In the early evening hours of December 2, 2019, a dispute over a stolen vehicle in Anderson, South Carolina, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 35-year-old Larendas Lashawn Martin. Martin, a male resident of Anderson, was driving his yellow Chevrolet Camaro near the intersection of Southwood and West Market streets when the deadly confrontation unfolded.
The argument, which had been simmering, reached its tragic climax as gunshots rang out in the neighborhood.
Martin was struck twice by the gunfire. Emergency services were quickly summoned to the scene, and he was rushed to AnMed Health Medical Center. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Martin succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery. The sudden violence of the incident sent shockwaves through the local community.
Investigators with the Anderson Police Department promptly began piecing together the events that led to the shooting. Their inquiries identified 25-year-old Trey Lorenz Singleton of Walterboro as the primary suspect. Following a months-long investigation, law enforcement located and apprehended Singleton on March 13, 2020, in Colleton County. He was subsequently charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. After his arrest, Singleton was arraigned in Anderson Municipal Court where he was denied bond, marking the beginning of the legal proceedings in a case that left a family grieving and a community searching for answers.
