On the evening of December 19, 2019, a 15-year-old male named Kerolos Mina Zaky drove to the Kingswood neighborhood in Piedmont, South Carolina. He had given a ride to several individuals from a local gas station, intending to drop them off at their destination. However, the events that unfolded in the quiet residential area took a tragic and violent turn.
After arriving at a home on Mansion Circle, some of the passengers in his vehicle launched an attack on Kerolos in what authorities
would later describe as an attempted robbery. During this struggle, a firearm was discharged, and Kerolos was fatally wounded. He was discovered shortly before 8:00 p.m. inside his car, having succumbed to a gunshot wound at the scene.
The subsequent investigation by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office led to the arrests of five individuals in connection with the death of Kerolos Zaky. Law enforcement charged Braelon Brown, Jamazzeo Dequan Glover, Jaylin Hill, Tyreke McMahan, and David Mosley with murder, armed robbery, and criminal conspiracy. According to witness statements detailed in court documents, Braelon Brown was identified as the individual who allegedly fired the fatal shot. At the time of the incident, at least one of the suspects, Jamazzeo Glover, was out on bond for a previous armed robbery charge and was being monitored via GPS. The parents of some of the minors involved were later included in a civil lawsuit filed by Kerolos's family, alleging their negligence contributed to the tragic outcome.
