In the summer of 2020, a gathering at a home in Lexington County, South Carolina, turned tragic, ending the life of 28-year-old Trayon Devon Newhouse. On the evening of June 25th, an argument erupted between Newhouse and another man in front of a residence on Minolta Drive. The dispute escalated, and Newhouse was shot twice in the upper body. A toddler who was also present at the scene was struck by gunfire, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury to the lower body.
Following the
shooting, the suspect fled the scene, sparking a nearly nine-month-long manhunt. Law enforcement officials identified Keyshaun Alfred Muller, then 20 years old, as the alleged gunman. Investigators stated that Newhouse was unarmed and had not provoked the attack. In March of 2021, members of the U.S. Marshals Service's Fugitive Task Force and the Columbia Police Department located and arrested Muller in the Columbia area.
Muller was subsequently charged with murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following his capture, he was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. Shortly after the fatal shooting of Newhouse, a separate but nearby shooting occurred in the same subdivision. Another man was arrested in that incident for firing a rifle at a house.
