Danielle Jermaine Dixon, a Black male known affectionately as "Man," was discovered deceased on July 31, 2020, in the Newtown community of Dillon County, South Carolina. The discovery was made after deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the area, which had shaken the local residents. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to find the victim had sustained fatal injuries from gun violence.
The incident immediately launched a homicide investigation involving local and state authorities.
Investigators with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and other agencies, worked to identify the person responsible for the shooting. Following their inquiry, they identified a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. In August 2020, authorities located and apprehended Zephaniah Amatayos Baker, a resident of Dillon, taking him into custody without further incident.
Baker was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Dixon's death. During legal proceedings in October 2021, Baker appeared before a judge to request release pending trial. The court denied his bond, citing the nature of the charges and potential danger to the community, ordering him to remain incarcerated at the Dillon County Detention Center while awaiting further judicial action.
