In the early hours of August 2, 2020, in Cayce, South Carolina, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet on Allen Street, leaving a scene of violence that would claim the life of 19-year-old Khajari Brown. Officers from the Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to a 911 call about shots being fired at approximately 2 a.m. and discovered a chaotic scene with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Among the victims was Isiah Bailey, 20, who was pronounced dead at the scene
due to multiple gunshot wounds. Khajari Brown, having sustained serious injuries, was rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Brown succumbed to his injuries and passed away. A third person was also wounded in the incident and received treatment for serious injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide was an ongoing effort by the Cayce Department of Public Safety. In the days following the shooting, authorities released a video showing two vehicles whose occupants were believed to be potential witnesses with valuable information that could aid the investigation. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to law enforcement.
Months later, a significant development in the case brought some measure of hope for justice to the families of the victims. On December 30, 2020, investigators arrested 21-year-old Israel S. Porter of Columbia. Porter was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Khajari Brown and Isaiah Bailey, as well as one count of attempted murder. At the time of his arrest for the homicides, Porter was already in custody in Richland County on an unrelated matter. He was subsequently held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center without bond. Even with the arrest, law enforcement officials continued to appeal to the public for any additional information, believing that community members might hold details crucial to the full adjudication of the case.
