In the early hours of August 2, 2020, in Cayce, South Carolina, gunfire erupted on the 1100 block of Allen Street, forever altering the lives of several families. When officers from the Cayce Department of Public Safety arrived at the scene around 2 a.m., they discovered a grim tableau. Twenty-year-old Isiah Bailey was found with gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Another young man, 19-year-old Khajari Brown, was also shot and was rushed to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A third individual was also wounded in the incident but survived.
The investigation into the double homicide stretched on for months. The families of Isiah Bailey and Khajari Brown were left grappling with the sudden and violent loss of their loved ones, pleading with the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. Their pleas did not go unanswered. In late December 2020, investigators announced a significant breakthrough in the case.
A Columbia man, 21-year-old Israel S. Porter, was identified as the suspect. Porter was already in custody at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on an unrelated matter when he was served with arrest warrants for the August shootings. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Isiah Bailey and Khajari Brown, and one count of attempted murder for the third victim who was injured. Following the charges, Porter remained in custody without bond. While an arrest was made, law enforcement officials continued to encourage the community to come forward with any further details that could be crucial to the case, emphasizing that even seemingly minor information could be important in bringing a full measure of justice for the victims and their families.
