In the city of Charleston, South Carolina, a verbal dispute escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 41-year-old David Jordan Laron Wilson on September 28, 2020. The male victim found himself in a heated argument with an 18-year-old convenience store clerk, Suhib Ahmed Aref Yousef, at Green's Grocery.
The disagreement, which began inside the store, quickly spiraled out of control.
Surveillance footage captured Yousef brandishing a bat-like object capable of creating an electrical arc, as well as a metal blade wrapped in tape. Despite Wilson's attempt to disengage and leave the establishment after spitting at the clerk, the confrontation was far from over. Yousef pursued him outside, continuing the argument.
Witnesses stated that Yousef fired a warning shot at Wilson. In response, Wilson charged toward Yousef, who then fired five more times. Struck by the gunfire, Wilson collapsed with a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to the Medical University of South Carolina but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the investigation into the shooting, Suhib Ahmed Aref Yousef was taken into custody. Initially, he faced charges of attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. However, with Wilson's passing, the charges against Yousef were upgraded to murder. The case proceeded to a bond hearing where the details of the deadly altercation were presented.
