LeMarcus Raekwon Martin, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot in his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, on Monday, October 5, 2020. The incident that led to his death unfolded in the parking lot of a local business. Martin had attempted to intervene in a dispute between his sister and Jaqueze Mikal Butler-Mcrae, the father of her children. It was at this point that Butler-Mcrae allegedly shot Martin.
He was transported to Prisma Health Upstate, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
An aspiring rap artist known as 'BoutADollarButta,' Martin was a former high school football star in Greenville. His athletic pursuits had taken him to California, where he attended Santa Rosa Junior College. However, a knee injury cut his football career short, prompting a return to Greenville to focus on his music. A few years prior to his death, in August of 2017, Martin was arrested in connection with a robbery that involved a shooting during an attempted marijuana transaction.
The man identified as the shooter, Jaqueze Mikal Butler-Mcrae, was subsequently taken into custody. Following the altercation that resulted in Martin's death, an investigation was launched, leading to charges being filed against Butler-Mcrae.
