In the fall of 2020, the life of 17-year-old Ahmad Rashard Stevens Jr. was tragically cut short in a burst of violence stemming from a domestic dispute in North Charleston, South Carolina. On the morning of October 30th, inside a home at 149 Mansfield Boulevard in the Archdale area, an altercation escalated, leading to a fatal shooting. Ahmad was killed, and a second individual, 19-year-old Najaf Baptiste, was also injured in the incident.
The male victim was remembered by his loved ones as a kind and humble person.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify 19-year-old Jeremiah Da Shawn Wright as the suspect. Approximately a week after the shooting, on November 6, 2020, Wright turned himself in to the authorities in North Charleston. His surrender marked a significant development in a case that had shaken the local community.
Following his arrest, Jeremiah Da Shawn Wright faced serious charges for his alleged role in the violent encounter. He was charged with the murder of Ahmad Rashard Stevens Jr. and the attempted murder of Najaf Baptiste, reflecting the grave nature of the incident. During a bond hearing held at the County Courthouse in Summerville, Wright was denied bond, ensuring he would remain in custody as the legal process moved forward. The case highlighted the devastating consequences of domestic conflicts and left a family and community to mourn the loss of a young life.
