In the fall of 2020, the life of 18-year-old Tywon Washington, a Black male from Summerville, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of November 7th, he was at the Haven Oaks Apartments in Dorchester County when gunfire erupted. He was shot and pronounced dead at the scene at 5:00 p.m. The Dorchester County Coroner's Office later performed an autopsy to officially determine the cause of his death, confirming he died from the gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the
death of Tywon Washington was a collaborative effort between the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office and the coroner's office. For nearly two years, the case remained under investigation as authorities worked to piece together the events of that fatal day. The community and Washington's family waited, hopeful for a resolution and for justice to be served for the young man's untimely death.
A significant breakthrough in the case came in August 2022. Authorities announced the arrest of a suspect, Trey-Von Drayton-Fabor. Investigators were able to link him to the scene of the crime through cellphone records. Further evidence was obtained through a forensic analysis of the murder weapon. At the time the arrest warrant was issued for Washington's murder, Drayton-Fabor was already incarcerated, facing charges for a separate and unrelated murder of a 17-year-old in North Charleston.
Following the new evidence, Trey-Von Drayton-Fabor was charged with the murder of Tywon Washington. He faced multiple counts related to the killing and was subsequently denied bond. The legal proceedings against him for the death of Tywon Washington are ongoing as the justice system continues its course.
